Once upon a time, out of France, came a Director, Writer, Actor, Producer, Cinematographer, Editor genius named Jean Rollin. His avante guarde style of film making made him truly a legend. His films, like perhaps the most famous of them, LIVING DEAD GIRL, have since become classics, and as such, classics become often imitated (or as some might put it, exploited). And that, boys and ghouls, brings us to this little ditty, REVENGE OF THE LIVING DEAD GIRLS (aka La Revanche Des Mortes Vivantes).

No, this is not a sequel to LIVING DEAD GIRL in anyway, despite the inference you might make from the title. And Jean Rollin has nothing to do with it. The only similairities are that it is French and it does appear to have Living Dead Girls in it brought back by toxic waste dumped into a cemetary. Other than that it is a stand alone movie.

The convoluted story involves a bunch of shady characters who are all trying to screw each other over. One plans to steal 3 million dollars, while another makes this money by having a goon dispose of toxic waste instead of properly destroying it. This goon dumps the waste in a graveyard and then of course gets greedy himself. This graveyard happens to be the graveyard where three girls are buried after yet another patsy, this one with a conscious, poisons a milk truck and these three girls drink the milk.

And yes, you guessed it, the three girls are brought back to zombie life by the waste and begin to extract a terrible vengence...Sound confusing yet? Well the ending is a real twister, and did I mention this was also a soft-core porn flick with people going at it at the drop of a hat? Even the zombies go for it with some of their victims.

OK so the story doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but lots of sex might make up for that, and by Jimmy there seriously is a lot of sex and nudity. Did I mention the drop of a hat? And do the characters in this movie need reasons to get naked? Hell no! So what I'm saying is exploitation-wise, this movie has all the sex bases covered.

But what you are probably asking is, "does it have gore? An exploitation flick needs gore right?"
Oh yes, there is gore. Not as much gore as sex, but there is some good stuff. And the gore does go along with the sexual theme of the movie with a penis biten off and some vaginal sword play.

So what's not to like then? Well having seen the original LIVING DEAD GIRL, I think I had higher expectations watching this. And this film comes no where close to LIVING DEAD GIRL in production value. Does the gratuitous sex and violence make up for the bad acting, piss poor camera work and lighting and over all crappy production? Well maybe if there wasn't the bar that LIVING DEAD GIRL had set. The crappiness does make it to comical levels in a couple parts, mostly in the dubbing department, but not so much as to make it a fun movie like ZOMBIE 90. And I guess there is a Rollinesque car burning, so I guess I can at least give them an 'E' for effort.

Still if sleazy sex and zombies is your game, then this movie might be worth a watch for you. And besides compared to Charlies Angel: Full Throttle, this movie is worthy of an oscar. Here's a trailer to get an idea what your in for if you watch this:
There are several releases of this. The current release on DVD (availible at Amazon) has a listed run time of 80 minutes. I haven't seen this one myself, but I'd like to as it comes with a alternate shock ending as a supplement (how much more shocking can the ending be, I wonder?).

The version I have is an OP Canadian VHS release from Le Groupe Prolusion which is listed as 82 minutes. I have yet to give them the Pepsi Challenge to see what the difference is.

The one you don't want is the Redemption release which I have also seen and is cut (about 3 or 4 minutes worth) to hell which makes it not worth the watch.
